BORN TO SEE THE WORLD AROUND ME
Traveling and taking photographs opens my mind to new ways of thinking. I believe as a graphic designer, illustrator, photographer and artist that you should try to travel to experience new places, people and environments. Whether it be a day trip, somewhere around town or completely unexpected, traveling gives me creative ideas that I may not have thought of before. When I look through the photographs I have taken, they not only bring back memories, but also motivate me to paint and create.
Norwegian Fjords
In 2019, I took a cruise along the Norwegian Fjords. The views were so stunning it felt like I was in a dream. The sights of the fjords, colors of the water and buildings, floating clouds around the fjords, endless waterfalls and so much more were remarkable. Everyone I met was kind and welcoming. I loved taking photos from a different angle and perspective to get the right shot. I’d love to go back there again someday.
Deer Isle, Maine
In 2015, I took a metals workshop at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle Maine. The workshop I took was a week long. The school is located on the Atlantic Ocean and the sights are exquisite there. While I loved the workshop and learned so much in just a week, I also loved being surrounded by nature and the ocean. In mornings and evenings other students and myself would walk out to these big rocks that overlooked the ocean. The sunsets there were incredible and there were nights where we had campfires. Everyone was so friendly and fun to be around. I learned so much and was inspired by classmates, teachers and the beauty all around us.
Southwest Ireland
In 2014, I took a photography workshop along Southwest Ireland. I met photographers from all around the world. We learned from each other and I gained inspiration. The colors, textures, people, and architecture amazed me. If you have not been to Ireland, add St. Finbarr’s Church Gougane Barra to your bucket list. It was so beautiful waking up and capturing photographs of the colors, mountains, trees and reflections on the water there.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
In 2012, I participated in a photography workshop with a National Geographic photographer in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I met photographers of all ages and developed new techniques and perspectives. My favorite place we went to was the Chimney Rock Trail at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico. This place felt magical when I was there. Artist Georgia O’Keeffe has always inspired me with her painted scenes of these areas and of the Black Mesa which I saw too. It felt amazing to be there and see what she saw there many years ago. When our photography group got to the top of the trail, it overlooked Chimney Rock and the sights were unforgettable.
Photography and painting my memories brings me happiness. I never get tired of taking photographs of somewhere new or old because I always find something to remember forever. Take a photograph from a different angle, level and perspective and let it speak for itself and show your journey.
